Reigning Queen

The reigning queen at my father's farm, Trunte, is well aware of her status. She has featured in my photographs before, as a kitten and young adult. Now she has grown into her power and while other cats at the farm are sweet and with each their talents and charm, none come close to her in terms of dominance and power. She regularly asserts her position and chases even the biggest male strays away. Dressed for a Picnic

Little Mathias is dressed for picnic and has a moment in the sun to pose for me. While Mathis didn't mind the sun and wore an appropriate hat, the white colors made metering difficult. The camera mesures light pretty well on average but for this scene I exposed manually for his face, to avoid too dark shadows caused by the camera trying to avoid blown out highlights. I guess it is to be expected if you give an animal plenty of food and keep it in a small enclosed space. But still - this prarie dog is very very fat. Mathias has a healthy appetite, and is not afraid to reach out. Actually, we had to keep him away from most of the food to salvage some for ourselves.
